Chat Server Connection

You may receive a message which states "Chat Server Connection Error". This message will be prompted when an error occurs when trying to connect to our chat server. When this happens a user will not be listed as currently being "Online" because other users will not be able to chat with this user. A connection to the chat server allows users to send and/or receive a chat session with other users.

Note: All other megamates features wil be available to you even without a chat server connection. You may still use MegaMates to send and receive messages, view profiles, search, and/or manage your account. The only features not available when not connecting to the chat server is creating a chat session with other users.

The MegaMates system makes multiple attempts to connect to our chat server. If a user receives this error they are more than likelly to be behind a firewall or a proxy server. A firewall and/or proxy server may disallow connection to our chat server. A firewall or proxy server may be found in a public location such as a library, internet cafe and a business network.

Our chat server will try to connect a user on the following server ports using rtmp packets:

If any of these ports are blocked by a firewall or proxy server and/or rtmp packets are not allowed a failure to connect to our chat server may occur. Contact the network administrator to ensure you are able to connect through any of the above ports. Our chat server is based from the Adobe Flash Communication Server. This technology is utilized when creating a chat session with other users. Adobe has created a test in which a user may run to see if they are indeed available to connect to a Flash Communication Server. If you receive a success status for any of the listed ports you are indeed allowed to connect to our chat server. Further information may be found below the test.
