Be Creative with Your Dates

Be Creative with your Dates. The classic dinner and a movie can get old quickly. The first few dates are more about conversation and assessing the long-term potential of the person you're with. If you make it past the dinner dates, it's time to get creative and have some fun. Dating is an adventure. You get to show your date the places and activities you enjoy. Your date will share all the things they love to do and it's possible you'll be exposed to something new you didn't realize you'd like. Be open to letting your love interest plan dates, too. It's also a good idea to check with your date before you plan something creative. A surfing date won’t be fun for a non-swimmer. These dates are the true test of your compatibility.

Dating is a great time to explore activities you wouldn't usually do on your own. And it's an even better time to discover what you and your date have in common. To spice things up, here are a few creative date ideas.

  1. TABLE HOPPING. Instead of staying at one restaurant for the entire evening, plan a progressive dinner. Watch the sun set for appetizers. Change restaurants and have dinner at a quaint little bistro. Then, plan dessert at a late night bakery with a lively and interesting clientele. This creative night out will be an adventure in dining.
  2. A DATE WITH A VIEW. Every city has a vantage point with an amazing view. Whether it's a hike up a nature trail, a trip to an observatory, or a hot air balloon ride, planning a date with the view as your finale leaves a lasting impression on your love interest.
  3. TAP INTO YOUR ANIMAL INSTINCT. The zoo is always a fun date. But take a chance and get more creative with an animal themed date. An aquarium, snorkeling, a beach with seal pups, an animal reserve, bird sanctuary or traveling circus could be just the ticket for further discussion about the birds and the bees.
  4. THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Get tickets for an evening of live music under the stars. Check out a local band at a neighborhood club. Go two-steppin' at a country dive bar. If you like the same music or can at least tolerate your partner's heavy metal moments, there's always a creative opportunity when music is the centerpiece.
  5. HAVE A BALL. Go see a baseball or football game. Rent some shoes and try bowling. Chalk a cue for a game of pool. A little competition can be a creative way to see how your love interest handles losing. Or winning.
  6. TAKE A CLASS. Even if it's been years since you stepped into a classroom, learning something new can bring you and your date closer. Check the continuing education department at a local college or recreation center for everything from cooking to crocheting and foreign language to computer classes. You'll find it can be attractive to learn some new skills together.
  7. GET SOME CULTURE. Museums aren't just for old ladies and school kids on field trips. Check out the listings section of your local newspaper or city magazine for information about special exhibits and events that would interest you and your date.
  8. BE A TOURIST AT HOME. If you're like most people, you rarely explore everything your hometown has to offer. Grab some brochures from a hotel rack and check out the tourist traps in your city. It can be fun to mingle with the out-of-towners. Or get lost in your own city. Go to a neighborhood you don't know well and get acquainted with the local restaurants and shops.
